First Time User Registration for USC Libraries' ILLIAD System: Getting Started

Please review the information on this page to learn about USC Libraries' ILLiad services. To request an item through interlibrary loan, you must first create an account in the system. To do this, you fill out a registration form which will be reviewed by staff to determine your eligibility for these services. Registration has three purposes:

  • Entering your contact information means you will not have to supply the information again when making future requests.
  • Having your e-mail and regular mail addresses on file in the system enables us to notify you promptly and deliver materials accurately when your request arrives.
  • By entering your USC Net ID (everything before the "@usc.edu") as a username and a password of your choosing, you will have secure access to information about your requests. You will also be able to review your request history.

USC ILLiad Local Delivery and Distance User Services: What You Need to Know

IDD's Document Delivery service processes article and book chapter requests from USC-owned journals, books, and other materials. You will receive a link to your electronic document via e-mail and you can view, download, or print your request. Currently, there is no fee for local document delivery.

To be eligible for Document Delivery services, you must be a currently active member of the USC community as one of the following:

  • Faculty member
  • Staff
  • Graduate Student
  • Student enrolled in a Distance Education Course

    • NOTE: Please be sure to identify yourself as a Distance User under Status when you register in ILLiad.

    In addition, if you are Distance User who is not attending classes on the University Park Campus, you are eligible for home delivery of USC-owned and ILL-requested books. Please be sure to enter a current and valid mailing address when you register to ensure prompt delivery. Materials are shipped UPS Ground, however you are responsible for return postage. Other than return postage, there is currently no fee for home book delivery for Distance Users.

    To submit a request for document delivery, fill out the appropriate ILLiad request form with as much citation information as possible.

About your Username and Password

During registration, you will be asked to choose a Username and Password. You will use this Username and Password when logging on to the ILLiad system in the future.

Username
Your username must be your USCNet ID. For example, "tommy" if your USC email is tommy@usc.edu.
Password
Choose anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practice and choose a password that is different from those you use to access other systems.
ILLiad will encrypt your password, so it will remain secure. Only you will know your password.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
